Why Wren always says it is Wren

It would be easy to build a version of Wren that pretends to be you. Same tone, your name at the bottom, your loved one never the wiser. On paper it might even feel warmer. We decided early that we would never do it, and that decision shapes almost everything else about how Wren works.

Honesty is the kindness here

When Wren reaches out, the very first thing it says is that it is Wren, checking in on someone's behalf. Not a trick, not a disguise. The person always knows they are talking to a little service that a person who loves them set up, because that person wanted to stay close even when life made it hard.

That honesty protects the relationship. A check-in that pretended to be you would put a small lie between you and someone you love. When they found out, and they would, it would cost you the very trust you were trying to protect. Wren being clearly itself means there is nothing to find out later.

Consent comes first, always

For the same reason, no one gets a check-in from Wren unless they have agreed to it. The people you love opt in, they know how often Wren will reach out, and they can pause or stop it whenever they like. Consent is not a checkbox we bolted on. It is the difference between a gentle presence and an intrusion.

A warm presence that lies about what it is stops being warm the moment it is found out. So Wren never lies about what it is.

We think the future of software that touches our closest relationships has to be built this way, in the open, with consent, on the side of the people in the relationship rather than in the middle of it. Wren saying it is Wren, every single time, is how we keep that promise in the smallest, most concrete way we could find.
